The Old Glenbeulah School

The Old Glenbeulah School has stood as a fixture in the Glenbeulah community for generations. Built as a place of learning, gathering, and shared experience, its walls have witnessed countless moments of everyday life such as lessons taught, friendships formed, and traditions carried forward.

Though the school eventually closed its doors, the building itself remained, quietly holding onto its past.

A Piece of Glenbeulah’s History

The Old Glenbeulah School has stood at the heart of the community for more than a century.

Originally built in 1916, the school was designed to serve generations of local children. As the community grew, the building expanded, with an addition completed in 1938 to accommodate increasing enrollment. For decades, the school educated students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, becoming a central gathering place for learning, events, and daily life in Glenbeulah.

One of the earliest stories tied to the school dates back to the early 1900s. Local legend tells of a bullied student and a grieving mother said to have cursed the school, the town, and the cemetery.

Whether rooted in truth, rumor, or something in between, the story continues to be shared  and some believe its presence is still felt today.

In 1995, due to declining attendance, the school closed when the district merged with Elkhart Lake. What followed was a long period of silence. The building sat empty for nearly 30 years, its halls untouched, classrooms still, and memories lingering within its walls.

Over time, stories began to surface.

Former students and teachers have shared accounts of unexplained experiences such as lights turning on by themselves, unidentified noises echoing through the building, and a particularly creepy downstairs bathroom that many remember vividly. One story tells of a picture that refused to stay on the wall, no matter how many times it was rehung.

In 2021, the school entered a new chapter when it was purchased by a paranormal group, bringing renewed attention to both its history and the stories that never seemed to fade. Today, the Old Glenbeulah School stands as a place where past and present meet - a preserved piece of local history that continues to spark curiosity, conversation, and wonder.

Whether you visit for its historical significance, its atmosphere, or the stories whispered through its halls, the school remains what it has always been: a place that leaves an impression long after you walk away.
